Setting up robotic milling machines faster with nTune

Challenge

Whether a new machine is setup, an existing machine moved to a new location or a running process modified, it takes time and manual effort to adjust a machine and its parameter settings accordingly.

In case of robotic milling, the limited stiffness of the robot and the higher speed variation can lead to geometric deviations from the specified robot path. It is a manual trial and error approach to bring the manufacturing process into its desired path.

Solution

nTune helps manufacturers with a faster machine or process setups by learning from other running machines or comparable environments. The software takes the perspective of the manufactured part and uses the data generated during the production of similar parts as reference values for newly manufactured part.

For example: If a robot scarfs a damaged area of a carbon composite part, the data (e.g. robot velocity, milling head temperature, path accuracy) can be used for the repair of a similar damage at another area within the part, even if the robot pose is totally different from the repair job before.
